Build an electric instrument, explore arduino, learn electronics and much more
In this week long programme participants will build an electric single stringed, fretted musical instrument called the MonoZith from a laser cut kit designed by Ed Devane. They will cut and place frets, solder pickups and finish with wax. On the last day Arduino programming will be explored to hit the strings in different ways using motors and implements controlled with code. This hybrid workshop covers hands on craft, electronics, programming and introduces participants to concepts about design, fabrication, interactivity and teamwork.
Ed Devane is a sound artist, interaction designer and educator. He has created interactive sound installations, musical performances, instruments and workshops all over Ireland, most recently in Science Gallery Dublin, NerveCentre Derry, NCAD, LSAD and UL.
