Open Trad sessions led by Stephen Doherty  23rd September -11th November 6-7pm for all ages and stages. 

Come all to The Dock for our open trad seisiún led by the brilliant young musican Stephen Doherty. These sessions are for alll ages, and for any who can play a tune on the fiddle, bodhrán, harp, concertina, or any instrument at all (including non-traditional instruments) are welcome to come along try new tunes and connect with other interested musicians. These sessions are pressented with the generous support of Creative Ireland and are part of a project that  The Hawk’s Well Theatre and The Dock are joining forces on a shared project to commission and produce an exciting music project - Both Sides of the Lough - across Sligo and Leitrim this Autumn. The project harnesses a wealth of creativity and talent linking professional, emerging and amateur musicians across the two counties.  Renowned traditional musician Stephen Doherty will work with groups of emerging traditional youth artists from Sligo and Leitrim from September to November on a body of newly commissioned pieces of music written by renowned composer Michael Rooney.

Stephen Doherty hails from Foxford, Co. Mayo in the West of Ireland, he began learning music at the age of 4 and through his teenage years began to accumulate numerous all-Ireland medals on whistle, bodhrán, drums, accordion and is a two time All-Ireland winning Champion on Melodeon and is a senior All-Ireland Champion on the flute. His first music based international trip was at the age of 17 to Cleveland Music Festival in America, and at the age of 18 he became a full time musician joining FOM productions for for various shows throughout France and America over the next year. While juggling between teaching and touring, he then became the resident Traditional Irish Music Teacher at the Renowned Mayo School of Music teaching 5 Instruments to a student base of over 100 students a week.
