Presented in association with Sligo Leitrim Beekeepers Association
In association with Sligo / Leitrim Beekeepers Association. With an introduction by Peter Carter.
Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis point. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables. The film follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S.
A bee keeper for 12 years, Peter Carter moved to Ireland in 2013. He was able to re-start beekeeping and work with Sligo / Leitrim Bee Association as secretary and Education Officer. In that capacity he runs “Introduction to Beekeeping courses”, give talks and organises stalls at local shows.
