The Dock is fast-gaining a reputation for curating some of Ireland's most interesting and dynamic artists, across all generations, and producing excellent exhibitions. We are delighted to launch the first in a series of new commissions across artfroms, to support artists and maintain their connections with audiences through The Docks various channels. These Nine artists have been invited to submit ideas on work that they will undertake during the period of The Dock's closure and once completed this work will be exhibited there. In response to the commission the artists are going to be progressing this work over the next three months, and insights into their methods, ideas and practices will be mediated on line here and on our other social media platforms. These new commissions offer a great opportunity for viusal artists who practice in a range and variety of ways and they include painters Eve O'Callaghan and Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh. Recent award winning graduates Jamie Cross (IADT )and Ellen Duffy who is collabaring with Kate Murphy (TUD). Galway based artists Loiuse Manifold and Austin Ivers. Film-maker Atoosa Pour Hosseini and multi-displinay artist Bassam Al-Sabah, and renowned sculptor Jackie McKenna.
Speaking about the reasons behind the commissions The Dock's Director Sarah Searson said “The Dock team was looking forward to working with a number of visual artists this year. As a result of the current circumstances, there is a break in our gallery programme. And now artists we were to work with are without the opportunity to exhibit. So we have decided to invite the artists who are part of the 2020 programme to submit an idea and approach to developing their work while the galleries are closed . This commission offers the artists encouragement to keep making work and to continue their connection with us and with audiences.”
