Leitrim Youth Theatre Company is a professional youth theatre organisation by the Leitrim County Arts Office dedicated to providing opportunities for young people who wish to become involved in acting and theatre. LYTC in Carrick on Shannon consists of junior , intermediate and senior groups.

Youth Theatre at The Dock is divided into three groups; A Senior group (14-18 years) that  meets on Monday evenings from 5pm to 7pm, a Junior group (10-11 years) that meets from 5pm to 6.30pm on Tuesdays  and an Intermediate group (12-14 years) that meets from  6.30pm to 8pm on Tuesdays.

Why join The Youth Theatre?

There are many reasons including developing a range of acting & performance skills, meeting new people, making new friends, building confidence & above all, having fun producing, devising & making theatre productions!As a member of the National Association of Youth Drama, LYTC members have access to numerous national events and opportunities such as National Youth Theatre and the Young Critics Programme.

Tutors:

We are very pleased and excited to welcome two new Youth Theatre leaders this term. Maggie Kilcoyne and Sonia Norris will each bring their own experience and skills to Youth Theatre at The Dock 

Maggie holds an MA in Acting from East 15 Drama school, London. She has worked extensively as an actor, voiceover artist and as a drama facilitator in the UK, Ireland and Italy. She has just finished a voiceover series with RTE junior ‘As the Crow’s Fly’ which will be aired on RTE Junior Radio next year.  Maggie  has completed a number of series for young people’s radio with RTE over the last few consecutive years. As a drama teacher and facilitator she has worked with the Shakespeare schools foundation for the last seven years, an award winning company which encourages young people’s inclusivity and participation in Shakespeare in schools across the UK. Notably Maggie’s theatre credits include ‘The Big Wall’ directed by Bob Kelly and ‘Shenanigans’ directed by Katy Balfour, Punchdrunk Theatre Company and The Daughters of Emer,  the story of Lilly and Lolly Yeats’ directed by John Carty as part of The Lilly and Lolly Craftsfest (2015). Maggie works regularly as an actor with the London Film academy. Other notable film credits include ‘Locus of Control’ and An Saileach.Maggie is absolutely delighted to be working with Leitrim Youth Theatre in beautiful environs of The Dock Theatre this Autumn.

For the past few years Sonia has been working in Manorhamilton and Sligo co-running the Rabbits Riot Theatre Company where she produces a variety of theatrical experiences from one man shows to the Christmas pantomime to immersive, sight specific theatre. Before co-founding the theatre company Sonia received her BA Honours in Performing Arts Theatre Design from IT Sligo and worked with the International Beckett Festival with Sophie Hunter and Adrian Dunbar.When not working in the creative sector, Sonia enjoys being outdoors, researching myths, legends and all things fairy-tale and exploring castle ruins.
