At First Light comprises the talents of renowned uilleann piper John McSherry, founding member of Lunasa and Donal Lunny’s Coolfin and described by Irish Music Magazine as “a true master”, and outstanding young fiddle player Dónal O’Connor, whose playing was recently described by The Irish Times as “immaculate” “electrifying” and “…borne out of naked talent and consummate professionalism…”, combined with the sublime talent of Francis McIlduff from the famous McPeake clan on bodhran, pipes and low whistles. Alan Burke formerly of the band Afterhours on guitar and vocals, and ‘Asturian Traditional Musician of the Year 2006’ Rubén Bada on bouzouki, guitar and fiddle - you can see why The Scotsman described the band as ‘a dream team line up’.

Louisiana style Zydeco and Cajun Creole Music. One of the most noted young talents to emerge in Cajun or Creole music in the past few years, Cedric Watson is a fiddler, vocalist, accordionist and songwriter of seemingly unlimited potential, drawing on the old-style French songs of Southwest Louisiana and the greater Houston area.

Cedric's creative style and obvious joy in playing make him an engaging and exciting performer. Moving with ease between fiddle and accordion, his natural playfulness on stage makes him just plain fun to watch. His interest in reconnecting with the varied roots of the music in other parts of the world will make for an interesting ride. It will be nothing short of exciting to see what he does next. Expect lots of dance music!

Fidil’s line-up is composed of three exceptional and ambitious musicians; 2010 TG4 Young Musician of the Year Aidan O’Donnell; Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, TG4 Young Musician of the year 2003 and nephew of Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh; and Damien McGeehan whose unique ability to bring different sounds and technique’s to the fiddle helps see Fidil go boldly where no Trad band has gone before. All hailing from Donegal, their diverse and groundbreaking use of fiddles coupled with the depth of lore and tunes of the Donegal fiddle tradition makes Fidil one of the most unique and avant-garde ensembles in Irish Traditional Music.

“...a masterclass in the marriage of tradition and musical exploration, and a milestone in traditional music” Siobhan Long, Irish Times

A rare chance to catch one of the most sought after bands on the international music scene in such intimate surrounds - The Dock is delighted to welcome Lúnasa back to Leitrim to celebrate their new CD. Featuring Kevin Crawford on flute/whistles, Seán Smyth on fiddle/whistles, Trevor Hutchinson on double bass, Cillian Vallely on uileann pipes/whistles and Paul Meehan on guitar, don’t leave it too late to book this one!

Declan O’Rourke used to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut album ‘Since Kyabram’, a growing international fanbase and an enviable collection of eminent devotees, including Paul Weller and Snow Patrol, are rapidly changing that. On its release in Ireland, his debut ‘Since Kyabram’ reached Double Platinum Status and garnered Hot Press magazine’s ‘Best Debut Album’ award.

Paul Weller, when asked by Q Magazine what song in the last 20 years he wished he’d written, he chose ‘Galileo’ by Declan O’Rourke. He has supported Bob Dylan, Paul Brady, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, Beautiful South and Eddi Reader.

“Singing in a velvet-tinged bartitone with a killer falsetto….it’s a rare gift that his music can bear comparison with so many classic era troubadours, Fred Neil, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen while still sounding so completely original” Nigel Williamson, Uncut

Winner of a Meteor Award 2008 for ‘Best Irish Female’, Cathy Davey’s second album ‘Tales Of Silversleeve’, reached Double Platinum status in Ireland as well as getting a Choice Music Prize nomination for 2007 album of the year. Cathy has taken time out in France and Donegal over the past year to record her long awaited third album ‘The Nameless’, due for release this summer. Most of the material was conceived in a house in a tiny French town that belonged to a vivacious lady who left photographs of her departed partner around the house, resulting in a lot of the songs being tainted with both an eerie sorrow and a celebration of life.

For over four decades Jackie Daly has been acknowledged as, in the words of the New York Times “probably the best accordionist in Ireland”. The leading exponent of the rich and diverse Sliabh Luachra style of music, he has taken his music around the world, touring as a member of such illustrious ensembles as De Danann, Patrick Street, Buttons and Bows and Arcady. Singer/songwriter and guitar/bouzouki player, John Faulkner’s career began as a member of the group that gathered around the noted songwriter Ewan MacColl in London during the 1960s and later as a mainstay of Reel Union, the band that John founded with the great Irish singer Dolores Keane. In 1989, he wrote ‘Lion in a Cage’ about Nelson Mandela, and Dolores Keane topped the Irish charts with her recording of this song, which was banned in South Africa prior to Mandela’s release. John and Jackie have recently rekindled the musical collaboration they started in the late 1980s in the band Kinvara, which brought them all over the US and Europe.

A bumper celebration of grassroots music with legendary folk singer/ songwriter Peggy Seeger, the Niall Toner Band and Charlie McGettigan.

Sister of Pete Seeger and wife of English songwriter Ewan MacColl (who wrote ‘First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ for her), Peggy has 22 solo recordings, has participated in over 100 recordings with other artists and her latest album is a 2-CD set, ‘Three Score and Ten’, a distillation of her 70th birthday concert in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has published 149 of her songs in The Peggy Seeger Songbook (1998) as well as a companion volume of Ewan MacColl’s songs, The Essential Ewan MacColl Songbook (2001). She is considered among North America’s finest female folk singers and took a leading role in the British folk music revival, not only as a singer and instrumentalist but also as a theorist and songwriter.

Niall Toner is widely recognised as one of Ireland’s leading authorities on all aspects of country and bluegrass music, and also for his broadcasting work with RTE Radio. French guitar maestro, Pierre Bensusan’s name has become synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age or World Music were invented. Technically impressive with a simultaneous execution of colorful melody, an active bass line, unique harmonic choices, and eclectic rhythms; there is a sense of something both playful and serious in his work. Recipient of numerous accolades he has been commissioned to compose a piece for the upcoming Dublin Electronic Music Festival and was named 2008 Best World Music Guitar Player by the Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice Award!

“With the entire audience on side, Bensusan’s inveterate pursuit of music’s less navigated terrain is still a show-stopper - and resonate long after he sounded his final note” Siobhan Long, The Irish Times

“Listening to Pierre Bensusan is rejuvenating. Beside his extraordinary touch and tone, the notes and melody appeal directly to the tender side of our human nature” Steve Vai

“One of the truly gifted musicians of our time - he plays the guitar as if it were the very soul of himself” George Winston

Lennon has recently collaborated with west Limerick concertina player Tony
O’Connell on a new album entitled ‘Rossinver Braes’. Although almost fifty
years separates Ben from Tony O’Connell, there is an undeniable musical
connection between them - an understanding of phrasing, time and nuance
that one finds only rarely in any musical form. The tune selection leans toward the Sligo-Leitrim area and includes many tunes associated with Michael Coleman and James Morrison, along with newly-composed tunes, with several of Charlie Lennon’s compositions, including the hornpipe that gives the album its title, named after the village in Leitrim where Ben now lives.

Born in Co. Offaly, Mundy moved to Dublin when he was still a teenager and honed his musical talents performing on street corners.

His debut single To You I Bestow was featured on the soundtrack to William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and introduced the then 21 year old singer to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

Three studio albums into his career Jellylegs, 24 Star Hotel and Raining Down Arrows and Mundy released the live album and DVD Live & Confusion.
A prefect summary of his career to date, it was primarily meant to mark the end of another chapter in his career and allow him the space to write his fourth studio album.

One of the encores from Live & Confusion was the Steve Earle track 'Galway Girl'. Originally Sharon Shannon had recorded 'Galway Girl' with Steve for his own record.
In 2007 the live version became the most downloaded song of the year in Ireland beating Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Car's. Mundy & Sharon were awarded an IRMA award
for the honour.

This was followed with dates supporting Alanis Morissette and Neil Young in Dublin, before the release of his debut album Jelly Legs, which went on to sell over 50,000 copies worldwide.

Since then he has performed with the likes of Van Morrison and Manic Street Preachers and released the albums 24 Star Hotel and the recent Raining Down Arrows, both of which have been very well received.

Mundy looks set to remain one of Ireland's brightest talents.

A potent musical adaptation presenting Brian Merriman’s 18th century classic poem ‘Cúirt an Mheán Oíche’ in a contemporary setting, by veteran folk singer-songwriter Sean Tyrell. In many ways, this poem will always be timeless, taking a swipe at celibacy and political corruption. It is as true today as when it was first written centuries ago.
Tyrell’s adaptation has received somewhat legendary status since its premiere at Galway Arts Festival in 1992. This latest incarnation features the man himself, with fellow musician Johnny Mullins. The result is a heady mix of Celtic blues – melodious, hilarious, boisterous, risqué, irreverent, with a litany of sexual scenarios sung in styles veering from traditional to calypso.

Suitable for an adult audience.

“Merriman’s classic bristles with bawdy wit and Sean Tyrell’s rich musical settings a continuing delight” Irish Times

“The best night I’ve had for years in or out of bed was in Flagmount in East Clare last summer. The pleasure out of bed came courtesy mainly of Sean Tyrrell. I motored down from Derry for the production of Brian Merryman’s classic The Midnight Court, set to music by Sean. It was boisterous, colorful, risqué, raunchy, hilarious, melodious, and was sexy.”

ART DOCUMENTARY

"Johnny Gogan's innovative art documentary The Adventures of Flannery: A Portrait of Cathal Coughlan examines the life and work of the Cork-born singer, songwriter and enfant terrible. Coughlan, who began his musical career with Microdisney and later formed the volatile and uncompromising Fatima Mansions, has in recent years worked in more inter-disciplinary contexts such as the musical theatre project Flannery's Mounted Head project.

The Adventures of Flannery is the latest production of Johnny Gogan's Dromahair-based production company Bandit Films. While Johnny's previous feature dramas include The Bargain Shop, Mapmaker and The Last Bus Home, this is his first feature length documentary. Look out for a cameo performance from Leitrim-based actor Donal O'Kelly as the menacing Mister Bungle.
