Workshop Classes
Egg Tempera workshop with Artist Benita Stoney
Saturday May 18th 11am - 4pm
The Dock Carrick on Shannon
Gesso boards provided. Admission: €35 Please ring The Dock Box office 071 96 508 28 to reserve your place.
This is a hands-on workshop developing the techniques of egg tempera.
Egg tempera is a painting process that uses egg yolk to bind pigments. You will learn to manufacture the paints yourself through the simple process of mixing finely ground pigment, water and dilute egg yolk.
The paint is then applied in a method where the optical laws of egg tempera are obeyed thus the unique surface of egg tempera will be achieved.
The class is open to all levels, beginners to pros.
Participants should bring an image to work from. Simple and small-scale – tempera requires time. A full materials list will be emailed to you on booking.
Benita Stoney
Benita Stoney is currently showing in gallery 3 of The Dock in the exhibition Emerging Artists, curated by Alice Lyons. Of the work that is on show here she writes My work explores our endless fascination with what it is to be human, which I express through the ancient and demanding medium of egg tempera. As I slowly build up the image in many layers of paint in the thinnest of glazes, the piece becomes a meditation on the sitter, and an investigation of what has been called the ‘ambiguous constant’ of personality
