A recipient of the Arts Council’s Next Generation bursary, Ali Kirby worked with The Dock on a mini summer residency in 2017. Ali continued to work with The Dock again in 2018 on a project that saw her complete research and develop new work from ideas generated when she spent time visiting homes in Leitrim as part of that 2017 mini-residency. Her sculptural assemblages and installations physically respond to the built environment. She uses ordinary construction materials which are re-purposed to create seemingly robust structures that reveal their fragility upon inspection. Her approach to materials and colour is intuitive, often employing a muted palette, soft textures and hard edges to create the various surfaces and forms normally associated with architecture.
