Exit Does Theatre presents Ante Beckett, an original one-act comedy (25 mins) written by Joel Smith. The play centres around a single character, a Samuel Beckett-type figure dealing with the life in which he is present, his mother’s womb, and the one he is preparing to face in the vast world beyond.

Apart from his struggles with the idea of his existence, he is forced to deal with the overbearing presence of his mother and the constant clamour of the outside world of which he is soon to be part. The play is reflective of Beckett's work and themes are written and performed in the playful rhythm and style synonymous with his plays and suitable for an audience with or without a previous knowledge of his work.

Ante Beckett will be performed by Paddy McEneaney and directed by John Carty. The production also involves a stalwart crew with Joe Hunt on sound design, Michael Cummins on lighting design, and Eniko Hegyi on set and costume design.

About Exit Does Theatre

Exit Does Theatre was founded by Patrick McEneaney in 2016. Since then we have developed innovative professional and community engagement programmes and deliver quality arts experiences and theatre for everyone. Ante Beckett is our second fully professional show.

We aim to provide a collaborative space where practitioners at all stages of their careers can hone, develop, and showcase their skills in a professional environment; to produce audience-centred theatre through the delivery of quality arts experiences and events; and to provide opportunities for participants to develop ideas, skills, and experience.

Exit Does Theatre is supported by an on-going residency with The Glens Centre in Manorhamilton. Ante Beckett was made possible through the support of Leitrim County Council and The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media under the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.
