DOUBLE GROUND: New Work by Paddy McCann |
Saturday 03rd July - Saturday 18th September Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 6pm FreeExhibition opening at 2pm on Saturday 3rd of July. All welcome.
Much has been said about life in Northern Ireland. It has been a continuing story of positions taken and theorising about ‘sides’, often wrapped up in a language of euphemism as ‘the situation’. But as poet Paul Muldoon says ‘anybody who knows anything about it knows that it’s a lot more complex than that’. In an effort to provide space for a fresher and more considered artistic response, The Dock has initiated a new annual series in which a single artist from Northern Ireland is invited to use our galleries as a space for reflection on a place intrinsically linked to Leitrim – a place just up the road.
The series opens with Paddy McCann (born 1963, Cladai, County Armagh) a Belfast-based artist whose exhibition of new paintings is entitled Double Ground. McCann has a formidable reputation among artists, collectors and viewers as a painter of uncompromising integrity and steadfast vision. McCann’s work in this exhibition -- richly coloured and layered oil paintings -- embraces memory and the landscape of rural Armagh as a complex and contradictory ground.
Paddy McCann’s show opens on Saturday 3rd July at 2 pm. All are welcome. Exhibition continues until Saturday 18th September
