The Permeable Institution by Joanne Laws is a review of Andrew Kearney's 'Mechanism' exhibition. The essay references the underground club culture of 1990's Britain, the historic ‘Jail Island’ of Leitrim in the 1600s, the legislative past of The Dock as a former courthouse, and the internet-age phenomenon of encroaching data surveillance.
Katherine Waugh’s essay, 'Mechanism' begins by drawing comparisons between the first presentation of the exhibiton Mechanism at the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris, and the second showing of the work here in The Dock where the work was modified specifically for the spaces it was to inhabit.
