The Dock is delighted to host James Doherty O’Brien for rehearsals of his original one-man show for the Scene + Heard Festival 2025.
Titled Your Heart is an Empty Room, the play is inspired by seminal works including Krapp’s Last Tape by Samuel Beckett, Misterman by Enda Walsh, and Rum and Vodka by Conor McPherson. It’s about a young man dealing with the breakup of a band and how he reckons with the loss of a dream. It deals with coming-of-age, creativity, and how we can find the courage to step out into the world. Your Heart is an Empty Room also features original music by Doherty O’Brien.
Doherty O’Brien has been rehearsing at The Dock, Axis Ballymun, and the Irish Theatre Institute. The play will be performed at Smock Alley Theatre on 27 February.
"Working in these spaces has been massively helpful to me. I want to give a special thanks to Maureen Penrose and Ciarán Wilde for their support and encouragement throughout the process. I hope that it leaves an audience feeling hopeful and that befriending ourselves during our darkest moments is really the most important way of finding the light."
