About the residency

As artist in residence, Mick focused on composing new music for his 2nd full-length release. He continued the production of a 3rd commissioned track for the Elsewhere compilation series in collaboration with sean-nós singer Aoilleann Ni Rhian and also on new compositions for his collaborative project 'Chutney Wick' with the Belgian Producer DJ Sofa. He also recorded and released two mixtapes as part of the 4-month residency. You can listen to them below.

Digs & Feels 2

Digs & Feels 2 is the 2nd product of t-woc's residency here in 2020 in Carrick on Shannon. Due to be released at the end of his stay in The Dock but cut short by the you-know-what, a year later and on the anniversary of the residency's timetabled completion, the mix sees the light of day. With artwork by local painter Cool C, a layout by Wicklow collaborator Manus Sweeney it continues the theme of the first edition of wavey oddities, screwed boogie, Italian pop nuggets, sneaky edits, an Irish-related jam or two and brought together by the theme of male vocals(Edition one being strictly woman's voices).

'This tape is a snapshot of what sort of tracks were floating around my musical sphere at the time of my residence, the sounds are a mix of the familiar and exotic. I feel it portrays the comfort I felt in my new different surroundings during the residence and is a reminder of how the mind can travel, in this case from a small town in Ireland, around the world through music

Different Rhythm

During this residency, Mick hosted a number of vinyl-only DJ gigs with an emphasis on taking people on a sonic journey through multiple musical genres and non-genres.

He was joined in this enterprise by Ireland's DJ Donal Dineen and DJ soFa from Belgium. With a focus on the concept of connecting common rhythms found in many different cultures' musical heritage the gigs brought large crowds on a journey through Afro / Caribbean, Latin, African, World, Brazilian and Reggae selections.

About the Artist(s)

Mick Donohoe is a music producer and DJ based in Wicklow.

His 2016 debut album 'Sentinelas' is a highly regarded album of instrumental beat tracks, based on a kids story book found while digging for old vinyl in Sao Paulo, the album uses imagery from the bizarre illustrations of the book to guide the feel of each track, all of which where built from samples from vinyl found in the same warehouse full of records.

In 2019 he released two new productions on the Elsewhere label and performed his own productions at the OpenEar festival on Sherkin Island, Camp Cosmic in Chemnitz Germany, Sameheads in Berlin and also mixed the debut release for Moroccon/Belgian duo Mameem 3.

Regarded as the foremost collector of music from the tropics in Ireland and a working DJ - performing every weekend in Ireland, around Europe and beyond. He founded the widely acclaimed 'Disco e Cultura' project, exploring musical connections between Latin America, Brazil, West Africa & the Caribbean, through regular vinyl only parties often featuring film, dance and multimedia exhibitions. He is a regular contributor to radio including 10 years on Radio na Life, a monthly show on DDR and a regular contributor to Dublab LA. In 2017 he completed a Masters in Music Technology in CIT.
