Moving Together is an integrated dance programme led by Kate Wilson and Isolde O’Brolchain Carmody (co-founders of Undercurrent Dance) held at The Dock in County Leitrim. The programme includes movement workshops, discussions, and performance sharing. On Saturday 30 November, Moving Dialogues will take place to mark with International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024.
The organisers will collaborate with young people from Leitrim’s Bright Sparks youth theatre, adults from Tus Nua Rehab Group, and members of the Leitrim International Community Group. Nigerian dancer Loveth Oyiboka will continue to develop the cultural dance element of the programme.
The day will begin with a dance workshop led by Kate Wilson — gentle and explorative, this will include somatic relaxation processes, guided individual movement explorations, interactive group movement structures and facilitated group improvisations. All the processes are fully inclusive and focus on the joy of connecting through movement. The workshop will finish with transdisciplinary reflective processes.
Lunch will be provided by the Olive Tree and set up in the Jury Room café at The Dock. This is an opportunity for the group to chat and connect in a warm inclusive environment. The afternoon will continue with cultural dance share from Loveth Oyiboka and new participants from Leitrim International Community Group followed by discussion and group reflective activities.
Centred on inclusivity, Moving Dialogues will offer a range of supports such as accessible transport and accommodation, personal assistants, sensory time-out spaces and lunch at the venue. For further information, booking and access support, please email hereinafterperformance@gmail.com
Undercurrent works closely with Maryam Madani, director of Disability Power, and Emilie Conway, director of DADA (Disabled Artists and Disabled Academics), to ensure thorough and updated consideration of access requirements and support. Their participation in the event also importantly creates opportunity for local participants to deepen awareness and connection with national support structures and communities.
