The Leitrim Design House presents creative workshops supported by the Leitrim Local Community Development Committee under the 2023-2027 LEADER Programme.
Digital embroidery with Amy O’Hara
Amy O'Hara from Dumore Embroidery will demonstrate how to create beautiful multicoloured embroidery from digital images using a Digital Embroidery machine and Digital Stitching software. Participants will learn how to manipulate images in the software to create various textile effects and observe how the digital embroidery machine produces layered embroidery designs. Each participant will create an embroidery design to take home. All materials will be provided, and laptops will be available for use with the digital embroidery software.
Participants will create an embroidery piece using digital software, gaining an understanding of both the principles of machine embroidery and the operation of the software and machine. This course is essential for anyone wishing to use the FABlab embroidery equipment. Most of the work will be carried out in the software programme. Date: Friday 20 June, 11am – 4pm.
Ceramic 3D workshop with Bettina Seitz and Stuart Lawn
3D printers can extrude everything from Kaolin and porcelain clay to stoneware and terracotta, even concrete (but that's a different story). This two-day workshop spread over two sessions to allow for drying, firing and glazing, is aimed at artists who wish to get experience in 3D Printing with Clay. The workshop is facilitated by Stuart Lawn and Bettina Seitz.
Participants will get to see the 3D Ceramic Printing process and get to experiment with using simple 3D CAD software to create their own designs to 3D Print in clay. The workshop will focus on the design forms and types of clay that are suitable for 3D Printing and the aim is to inspire artists and existing ceramicists to consider using these new digital fabrication tools to expand and augment their existing artistic practices. All materials will be provided as well as access to laptops for 3D CAD Design. Date: Friday 25 July & Thursday 7 August, 11am – 5pm.
