Leitrim Arts Development CLG is seeking to appoint a new voluntary Board Director to strengthen its governance capacity and strategic expertise in digital innovation, data protection, and cyber resilience.
The Dock is Leitrim’s flagship centre for the arts — a multidisciplinary venue and creative hub supporting artists, audiences, and communities through programming in visual arts, performing arts, and social practice. The organisation is committed to creative excellence, community engagement, good governance, and sustainable growth.
We are now inviting expressions of interest from individuals with experience in data protection, cyber risk management, and integrated digital communication tools who are interested in contributing their expertise at board level.
General duties include:
- Complying with the charity’s governing document, and ensuring that the organisation operates within its charitable objects and relevant legislation.
- Ensuring the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit, particularly in relation to access to and participation in the arts.
- Acting in the best interests of the charity, making decisions collectively and independently of any other interests.
- Acting with reasonable care and skill, drawing on your professional expertise where relevant and asking questions where needed.
- Managing the assets of the charity, ensuring that resources (financial, digital and physical) are used effectively and safeguarded.
Specific Responsibilities – Digital, Data & Cyber
- To provide informed advice and challenge on The Dock’s approach to data protection and GDPR, including data processing, retention, subject access requests, and third-party data processors. (This role does not involve operational responsibility or acting as Data Protection Officer.)
- To support the development and oversight of data protection and cybersecurity policies, procedures and staff/Board training.
- To help the Board identify, assess and monitor cyber and information-security risks, including around ticketing systems, CRM, email, cloud services and remote access.
- To advise on the secure and strategic use of integrated digital communications tools to support audience development, stakeholder engagement and fundraising, ensuring that privacy and security are embedded in design.
- To contribute to the review of any major digital projects or procurements (e.g. website redevelopment, new CRM, marketing automation tools) from a risk, compliance and user-experience perspective.
- To act as Board “champion” for digital governance, helping ensure that digital and data considerations are integrated into strategic planning and risk management.
Person specification
We are seeking applicants who can demonstrate professional experience in at least one of:
- Data protection and GDPR (e.g. DPO, legal, compliance, information governance).
Cybersecurity, IT risk management, or related digital risk disciplines. - Digital communications / marketing technology, CRM or integrated digital engagement platforms at a strategic level.
- A strong understanding of risk, governance and compliance, ideally within the not-for-profit, public or regulated sectors.
- An understanding of and commitment to The Dock’s mission, values and the wider arts and cultural sector, or a willingness to quickly develop this.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and constructively as part of a Board.
- High standards of integrity, sound independent judgement and the ability to maintain confidentiality and manage conflicts of interest.
Commitment
The Board meets approximately 6–8 times per year (hybrid/in person in Carrick-on-Shannon). The position is voluntary and unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Directors are appointed for a term of three years.
