As part of the Echo's Edge project, musician and sound artist Eimear Reidy will introduce young people to the dynamic and ever-evolving world of sound art. Sound art is a highly creative, unconventional, and fun approach to creating auditory experiences using methods and tools outside of conventional music making. It is increasingly featured in films, video games, and even pop music.
Participants will explore ways of making sound art, including recording and editing of every day sounds, using ‘found sounds’ (making interesting sounds with objects other than musical instruments) and graphic scores (similar to a musical score but using pictures, words and symbols to represent different sounds, patterns and dynamics). Together, we’ll explore the unique sound world of The Dock offered by the building itself and the current exhibitions. Through hands-on recording, editing, and composition techniques, participants will have the chance to create exciting and original work and to explore sound art as a creative medium.
The new compositions will be released as a digital album on Bandcamp, with all proceeds donated to a charity chosen by the participants. The public will also be invited to experience the work as an immersive, sensory-friendly sound installation at The Dock.
