An experimental workshop for artists to meet, collaborate, and make.
Run by the longstanding Dockers Arts Collective at The Dock, this is an experimental artist workshop where participants are invited to connect with their senses, come together to collaborate, share ideas, and make work across different artforms. The event is an open session with no set structure or outcome — the focus is on spending time creating alongside others and seeing what emerges.
You’re invited to bring your own materials and tools, depending on your practice. This could include visual art supplies (paints, paper, canvas), sound equipment (instruments, laptops, recording gear), or writing materials (poetry, text, stories). You can work on your own projects, respond to others, or try something completely new.
There are no rules or expectations around what you should produce. You can take part as much or as little as you like. The aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where people can connect, exchange ideas, and expand how they think about their creative work.
This event will take place on Saturday 9 May from 10am — 12pm.
Schedule
10:00am — Arrival and set-up
The event will begin by setting up the space and materials. Participants are welcome to arrive, get comfortable, and lay out any tools or supplies they’ve brought with them. This is a gentle settling-in period, with time to connect informally and tune into the space.
10:15am — Open making begins
Musicians will start the ball rolling, offering an initial soundscape to spark the session. From here, the space opens up for everyone to begin working — whether that’s responding to sound, starting something new, continuing an existing project, or simply observing and taking things in. There’s no fixed structure — participants are free to move between practices, collaborate with others, or work solo.
11:45am — Pause and reflection
Participants will briefly come together to consolidate the morning’s activity. This is an informal moment to reflect on what’s emerged, share thoughts or observations, and acknowledge the collective process so far. Sharing is optional.
12:00pm — Close
The session will wrap up at midday. Participants are free to continue conversations as they pack away, or leave quietly when ready.
