The Dock proudly presents a new community exhibition Lay of The Land by learners at Leitrim Youthreach in Mohill. The theme responds to the Leaving Cert Applied Visual Arts module on the local environment. The exhibition is curated by David Smith and learners with Laura Mahon, Visual Arts & Education Manager at The Dock.
Lay of The Land explores the local environment of Leitrim through the lens of topography, aerial mapping, land use, geography and the built environment. It features a 3D model of the county with process documentation, along with colourful Lino prints and a digital work created in Blender software.
The project began in October 2023 under the guidance from artist David Smith using 3D model-making as an artistic tool to explore and visualise the beautiful topography of county Leitrim landscape.
Artist Lorna Watkins worked with learners on several workshops with a focus on using aerial maps as a starting point to explore colour, gesture, texture, and composition. These workshops were funded through the Local Creative Youth Partnership under MSLETB.
