Join artist Marie Farrington and curator Kate Strain on Saturday 18 October from 2—4pm for an afternoon immersion in the artworks of ‘Diagonal Acts’.
The event begins in Gallery 3 with a collective reading of Megan Macedo’s text ‘Lifting and Leaning’ among the artwork about which the text was written. This will be followed by an outdoor excursion to the People's Park where we’ll activate a newly commissioned artwork by Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, designed to nourish the soil. We’ll use sculptural tools by Farrington to prepare the ground as part of the process. Afterwards — over tea and biscuits — we’ll discuss Farrington’s work, some research texts arising from the project, as well as her interest in geology, archaeology, the sculptural position of leaning, and the influence of those interests on her studio practice.
Spaces are free but limited, so book now for an afternoon of reading and conversation.
‘Diagonal Acts’ is a multi-platform project by Irish artist Marie Farrington. The exhibition here at The Dock brings together sculptural and site-responsive artwork by the artist, alongside specially commissioned works by invited collaborators. Underpinning the project is Marie’s longstanding interest in gaps, fragments and edges, in processes of archaeology and geology, in ideas around memory and place, and in the connection between the human body and the land.
The project is supported by the Arts Council (through a Visual Arts Project Award 2025), Culture Ireland, and Wicklow County Arts Office, through the annual Strategic Project Award Scheme.
