Slow Stitching

Meet-ups with Catherine Gray

11 September — 21 November 2025
Catherine Gray

Join artist Catherine Gray in the Jury Room for a creative adventure through stitch. This is a quiet place to gather, inspire and support each other as we slow down and enjoy the process of mindful stitching. We will meet twice per month month from 12pm to 1.30pm.

The creative morning will give us time out from our busy lives and help slow down our active minds. We will experiment with basic stitch and collage with fabric and papers. You can also bring along your knitting, crochet or any form of hand stitch work. Beginners are welcome on this journey along with experienced stitchers.

The dates are 11 and 19 September, 9 and 17 October, and 13 and 21 November 2025. The cost is €10 per meet-up including tea or coffee. Maximum 10 people.

What is Slow Stitching?

Slow Stitching is hand stitching that involves using bits and pieces of fabric, ribbon, lace, buttons, trims and even papers (ideally upcycled) to create wonderful pieces of fabric art. The idea is to slow down, breathe, and create whatever comes to mind without overthinking the process. There is no wrong way and it doesn't need to be perfect. Imperfections add character and your own individual voice!

Stitch meditation reduces stress and has many health benefits. Creative stitching allows you to express emotions and ideas that may be hard to put into words. By collaborating as a group in a relaxed and calm environment, we observe the connections we have in common and it gives us permission to slow down, connect to ourselves, and trust the process. By working as a group sharing and exchanging ideas, we challenge ourselves to think in a different way.

Materials

A selection of fabric and threads will be provided, but feel free to bring your own materials including scraps of fabrics, papers, threads, needles, scissors, pins.
