To celebrate National Heritage Week, you are warmly invited to the launch of the Stories in Stitches community exhibition. Please join us on Thursday 20 August, 6—8pm. Free admission.
Inspired by the remarkable creativity of Aran knitters from Kilnagross during the 1950s and 1960s, this exhibition marks the culmination of a long-term community project led by Patricia O’Reilly and Mary Kelly.
Bringing together local knitters and crafters, the project celebrates the sharing of experience, imagination, culture, and traditional skills. Through their work, participants have explored the rich heritage of Aran hand-knitting while creating new connections between past and present.
Stories in Stitches reveals how the vulnerable craft of traditional Aran hand knitting has been revived within a contemporary social landscape. Using needles, yarn, and generations of knowledge, the makers have woven their own stories into every stitch, demonstrating how this unique tradition continues to evolve while honouring its heritage.
We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate this special exhibition and the enduring legacy of traditional Aran hand knitting.
