The Reading Room presents A Miscellany of Women's Voices to mark International Women's Day 2024
A Miscellany of Women's Voices will feature four women speaking about their experiences of the world through the prism of womanhood. Please join us on Friday 8 March with Caron McCaffrey, Maura McNally, Carmel McMahon and Margot Slattery. The event will be moderated by Orlagh Kelly.
Caron McCaffrey
Ms McCaffrey is the first female Director General of the Irish Prison Service. The Director General of the IPS has responsibility for the leadership and management of the Service and the implementation of Government policies and strategies.
Maura McNally
A native of Dromod, Ms McNally was called to the Bar in 1992 and appointed to the Inner Bar in 2017. Ms McNally was elected as chair of the Council of The Bar of Ireland in 2020 and is only the second female to hold this prestigious position. In February 2022, she was appointed Chair of Governing Body of the ATU.
Carmel McMahon
Carmel Maria Mc Mahon emigrated to the US at the age of 20. She holds an MA in Liberal Arts (Biography & Memoir) from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her essays have appeared in The Irish Times, The Roanoke Review, the Humanities Review and Longreads. In Ordinary Time is her first book. She lives in County Mayo with her partner and their dogs.
Margot Slattery
Born to dairy farmers in Limerick County, Ireland, Margot started her career as a chef. She subsequently moved into management, which saw her become CEO, then Country President of Sodexo Ireland. In June 2017, for her work in supporting diversity and inclusion and women in business, she was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite by the then French Ambassador to Ireland. Margot joined ISS World Services in May 2021 as Global Group Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.
