The Reading Room Bookshop presents A Miscellany of Women's Voices to mark International Women's Day 2025.

The Dock is delighted to host poet Paula Meehan, journalist Justine McCarthy, and novelist and playwright Belinda McKeon to mark International Women’s Day. Please join us on Saturday 8 March as we celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness about discrimination. The event will be moderated by Orlagh Kelly from The Reading Room Bookshop.

About the Speakers

Paula Meehan is one of the best-known contemporary Irish poets. Born in Dublin where she still lives, she studied at Trinity College Dublin and the MFA programme at Eastern Washington University. Besides seven award-winning poetry collections, she has also written plays for adults and children. She has conducted residencies in universities, prisons, and the wider community, and her poems and plays have been translated into many languages, including Irish.

Justine McCarthy is an Irish journalist, author and columnist with The Irish Times. She has won national awards for opinion writing, features writing, and investigative and campaigning journalism.

Belinda McKeon is a novelist, short story writer and playwright. She is the author of the novels Solace (2011) and Tender (2015), and has had short fiction and non-fiction published in The Paris Review, Granta, Winter Papers, A Public Space, The Stinging Fly, and elsewhere. Her plays have been produced in Dublin and New York, most recently at the 2017 Dublin Theatre Festival, with Nora (Corn Exchange). After almost two decades in the US, where she taught at Rutgers University, she is now an Associate Professor in the English Department at Maynooth University, where she directs the MA in Creative Writing.

International Women’s Day has been around for over a hundred years, as have many of the issues still impacting women’s advancement. Since 1911, International Women’s Day belongs to all who care about women’s equality.
