Goltraí, Geantraí, Suantraí is a multi-media, interactive performance that explores the female voice and women’s roles within the Irish singing tradition. Three local musicians, with varied backgrounds, will come together to lead this once-off performance.

Fionnuala Maxwell is an award-winning traditional singer, composer and researcher who has spent years doing research in the area of traditional singing, with a particular focus on songs from her native Leitrim. As well as spearheading various projects, she has recorded two albums and composed songs for films, festivals, and commemorative events.

Aoife Hammond is a singer and multi-instrumentalist based in County Leitrim. Aoife has played in numerous noise and punk bands currently Extravision and Surge. She has composed original electronic and acoustic scores using synthesizers, bouzouki, guitars, mandolin, and vocals.

Tara Baoth Mooney is an interdisciplinary art practitioner whose work encompasses sound, performance, textiles, drawing, video, and song. She works in collaboration with The Clumsy Giantess, a shadow persona that enables her to engage with her arts practice in a unique way and offers new perspectives with which to engage with the world around her.

All three artists have a keen interest in experimenting with traditional song, celebrating the important role that women play in their everyday, often mundane routines and exploring the power of the collective voice by encouraging audience participation in what will be a multi-media, interactive performance. They will be joined by Carrick-on-Shannon-based cellist, Eimear Reidy.

Eimear has performed throughout Europe with Capella Cracoviensis, the Irish baroque orchestra, the RTE concert orchestra, Il Concerto Barocco, and Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra in some of Europe’s finest concert halls, including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Krakow Filharmonia and Birmingham Symphony Hall. Eimear employs a diversity of musical practices and collaborations throughout her work including improvisation, experimental electronic music and sound art.
