GreenBirdFlying folk trio will launch their latest EP, a collaboration with poet Mary Branley, at The Dock.
Folk trio GreenBirdFlying came together in 2020, when musicians Cliodhna Quinlan and Mark Murphy joined forces with Mandi Frankham's powerful vocals. The group are from Sligo, Roscommon and Leitrim. They launched their debut album in 2023 to much praise. Their uplifting music and songs use a blend of inspired arrangements of piano, fiddles, guitar, mandolin and vocals, and have charmed and delighted audiences at their shows. They have been described as “The Unthanks meets Einaudi” and also compared with the music of Kate Bush.
They create beautiful songs that also leave feet tapping along. Their songs start as poetry from a range of writers and become transformed into an enriching musical experience for the listener. Their last release Sweeping is a beautifully melodic song featuring vocals by Mandi, piano, strings and powerful word imagery. The song began as a poem by Sligo poet Mary Branley about the work of Maria Reiche in Peru uncovering the Nazca lines in the desert.
GreenBirdFlying are returning to The Dock to launch their brand new EP. This show features their ongoing collaboration with Mary Branley who will join the band onstage. Expect some great new songs, and original folk music from the band who have created a unique show built around Mary's poetry that will provide an unforgettable night and please all who come.
