Create organic forms using natural materials.
Saturday Studios is a series of workshops for young people that take place over two weekends in The Dock. These workshops are delivered as a way for young people to work closely with an artist and get an insight into their practices, as well as taking inspiration from our current exhibition.
The series of workshops are for two age groups: age 7-9 years 11:00 to 12:00noon and age 10-13years 12:30 to 2:00pm
First Session- 25 February
This workshop with Laura McMorrow draws inspiration from the SANKEY I WALKER exhibition. Learn how to make sculptural forms using natural materials. You will create an individual willow structure, and you will also collaborate (work together) with other Saturday Studio students to create a bigger structure. Learn how to weave, assemble and connect willow sticks to create organic forms.
Second session- 4 March
This workshop continues to draw inspiration from the Sankey/Walker exhibition. For this workshop, we will continue to work on our willow sculptures. Experiment with colour and shape by adding paper and paint to the sculptures.
Laura McMorrow is a visual artist based in Leitrim; she holds a Masters in Fine Art from the University of Ulster. Her practice combines painting, sculpture, video, collage and installation. Laura has recently been an artist in residence in Tyrone Guthrie Centre. She is currently working on a new series of paintings based on gardens.
