Delve into the world of soil, fungi, and plants with youth artist-in-residence, Jackie Maguire who will collaborate with Soil Scientist Dr Agnieszka Piwowarczyk and Forest School Educator Trisha MacLaughlin.
You will be introduced to several exciting and different approaches through art and music that examine the symbiotic relationship that exists between fungi and plants. Our theatre will be transformed into an immersive projected world to explore the amazing underground mycelium network in all its beauty and drama. These images have never been seen before in an Irish theatre space and will be premiered at The Dock.
Play will materials, shadows, create sounds and find out:
How do plants and fungi communicate and talk to each other?
What messages do they send?
What sounds do they make?
What might these connections look like?
At the end of the workshop, we will gather outside together, grab a cuppa and taste some freshly prepared mushrooms and talk soil! Dress comfortably.
As part of her residency at The Dock, Jackie and her collaborators Dr Aga and Trisha will be leading a series of workshops and events focused on young children under six years old. Their work will involve researching and exploring soil as a living system as part of a future theatre production.
This residency will raise awareness of important environmental issues facing the soil ecosystem, and to engage young children in these topics through the arts. It will also provide a space for children to develop their creative voice in art, decision-making, and creativity.
