Leitrim Youth Theatre Company presents SoulMates at The Dock! Check out how much the audience loved it last night, drag your teenage kids out and call by The Dock tonight, 31/03/2012 8.30pm for the second and last night of the show... well worth it!

I had a good old glimpse into The Dock today, the poets worked on rather unexpected poems in the dressing room and the auditorium was bustling with the last preparations for the Youth Theatre Performance SoulMates on Friday and Saturday night. I ALMOST got a sneak preview picture of the set but right there and then my battery went flat so I’ll have to give it a second shot tomorrow. I’ll be most certainly going along to one of their shows, seeing that there is a teenage daughter living under my roof (when exactly did THAT happen!?) and she’ll be most willing to be dragged along to see other youngsters performing… well, and then personally I seem to have a thing for SoulMates in the first place… I’ll try and find out a bit more yet, but let’s be intrigued anyway and go and see

Hi folks, if you didn't call by on Saturday look at what we were up to here, I'll keep you posted for sure! Graphic Design Project and the Animation Artists Talk ... both rather cool events..., and magnificent sunshine over Leitrim, what more did we need?
The Graphic Design Project
Leitrim County Council have commissioned 10 Leitrim secondary school students, to work with professional graphic designer Padraig Cunningham of Puredesigns to come up with an anti litter awareness logo/motif that the council will use for photo shoots and press information ... the project is a partnership between Leitrim arts office, The Dock and Leitrim County Council ... Again the council, especially the environment section, well done Linda Lyons, is to be applauded for realising the pool of young, local talent available to them ... they are sure to be rewarded with a fantastic original design.
The project is running in The Dock over the next few weeks, and an exhibition of preliminary sketches and ideas is in the pipeline...
Artist's Talk by Steve Woods and Cathal Gaffney
There was standing room only in Gallery 2 of The Dock last Saturday... Steve Woods, filmmaker and current lecturer at IDAT brought us through the history of animation from the first animation ever made by Emile Cohl in 1908 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swh448fLd1g right up to what the industry is up to now.
Woods likened Animation to the poetry of Film-making, aahww, I like that a lot!
Cathal Gaffney gave an honest account of being ahead of the game in the creative industries and the professionalism and high level of skill that is required to stay there. The audience was given a taster view of all it is the Brown Bag is up to ... the talk took in topics such as adult animation, the gaming industry and the role of animation in music videos...
Really super to see teachers in the audience and know the capable hands that our young creative's are in...
All in all an educational Saturday in the galleries of The Dock, and we're working on the next one for sure.

... and last but not least: Preparations for the show SoulMates on Friday and Saturday next are well under way... The Leitrim Youth Theatre Company (LYTC) set-building at The Dock in the Lovely Leitrim sunshine...

Keep in touch, Your Dock Blogger
