Lettering and mural artist Vanessa Power will introduce The Collective Producers to the vibrant and expressive art of sign painting. Sign painting is a creative and engaging way to explore typography and design, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic practices. Signs are not just functional, they are a vital part of our visual environment, telling stories about our communities and surroundings.
Participants will begin by becoming more aware of the signs in their town and local environment, examining their design, history, and significance. From there, they’ll dive into the art of lettering, learning to draw and design unique letterforms. Using traditional sign-painting techniques, each participant will create their own individual sign, drawing inspiration from their observations and personal responses to their collaboration with Eimear Reidy’s sound project.
The workshop will culminate in a collection of hand-painted signs, displayed together in an exhibition. This collective work will reflect the participants’ creativity and engagement with their surroundings, offering a fresh perspective on the intersection of art, typography, and community.
