Formed in 2024, LEAK (Leitrim Experimental Animation Kollective) is a loose grouping of people who meet up to learn about different experimental animation techniques in a hands-on way. These workshops are facilitated by Orla Mc Hardy — an artist and educator from Donegal, now living and working in Sligo / Leitrim. Using interdisciplinary animation processes as a starting point, she has collaborated with poets, radio producers, sound artists, architects, designers, and animators, and has crossed over into live-action and documentary filmmaking.
LEAK began meeting within the collaborative artist workspace in ^, Manorhamilton, and continues to use that space for group meetings and art-making. This meeting in The Dock is a continuation of that partnership.
LEAK will meet at The Dock on Saturday 17 February, from 11am — 3pm. Using the free StopMotion Studio app on their phones, or working under the camera with an animation stand, participants will be shown hands-on ways to create animated movement, responding to the space, works and materials (straw, leaves) present in the gallery space. A donation of €5 is welcome, but not required. All are welcome, booking is required.
